About Us
Who are we?
The AVCN research Institute is one of the UWS’s strongest research hubs in terms of research outputs, intellectual property (IP), and income generation. For the past 10 years AVCN developed a strong track record in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Extended Realities, 5G+ Networks, Big Data, Deep Learning, IoT, Blockchain, Autonomous Systems and Cyber Security, winning prestigious awards, generating research impact and IP, and securing significant grants from national and international funding agencies and industries.

AVCN has a proven track record of leading national and international projects from European Commission, EPSRC, Research Councils UK, Innovate UK, Scottish Funding Council (SFC), Scottish Innovation Centres and industries. Since 2014, the AVCN research institute has hosted over 40 small and large externally funded research and knowledge transfer projects, including coordinating large consortiums of EU projects. The institute has been collaborating with over 50 international partners.

B5GHub is at the forefront of research in the EU and the UK, conducting cutting-edge R&D projects, developing and bringing to society the next generation network, connecting people across the world and reducing inequality.
Affective and Human Computing for Smart Environments (AHSCE) Research Group
AHSCE takes a multidisciplinary approach to develop Affective and Human Computing for Smart Spaces. Its mission is to create technologies that make environments more responsive to human needs and emotions, fostering quality of living and wellbeing through technology.
Data anaLyTics for Intelligent and Autonomous Systems (DeLTA) Research Group
DeLTA use data analytics to address global challenges for education, finance, healthcare, and business, promoting digital preparedness for future challenges and contribute to a more sustainable world.
Drone Systems Lab
Drone Systems Lab at University of the West of Scotland is dedicated to developing intelligent and high-performance systems for autonomous drone services in security, transport, environmental monitoring, maritime, and precision agriculture
UWS Creative Computing Technologies (UWS CCT) Research Group
UWS CCT focus on innovative and sustainable technical applications of creative computing technologies, including virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, gamification, and serious games, to industrial and societal issues aiming to better education, industry infrastructures, inclusion, well-being, and quality of living.
